Matt Broder, Zoning Board of Appeals

Matt is a life-long resident of the Town of Trumbull, and is extremely familiar with the challenges facing our Town! After attending Jane Ryan Elementary School, Madison (then) Junior High, and Trumbull High School, Matt received a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Connecticut, and then his Law Degree (J.D.) at UConn Law School. After serving as a Temporary Assistant Clerk at Bridgeport Superior Court, Matt went into Private Practice, culminating in the opening of The Law Office of Matthew J. Broder in 2001. Matt and his Wife, Laura purchased Matt's childhood home, where they continue to reside after raising two children, both of whom attended Trumbull Public Schools. As an active Father, Matt was, and continues to be, an active Scout Leader, and continues to be a sponsor of the Trumbull High School Rugby Team. Over the years, Matt has also been an active member of the Jane Ryan Father's Club and PTA, he served on the Board of Directors for the Trumbull Loves Children (TLC) Program, the Pequonnock Valley Management Committee and the Trumbull Civil Service Board. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Connecticut in 1989, and received my Juris Doctor from UConn School of Law in 1992. I have been engaged in the practice of law since that time, after working as a Temporary Assistant Clerk in the Bridgeport Superior Court. While working as a Clerk, I was assigned to the only Judge in Fairfield County who heard Zoning and Land Use Appeals. I began working Part-Time as an Attorney in 1992, and then Full-Time in 1994. In 2001, I opened my own practice, The Law Office of Matthew J. Broder, which I continue to own and operate as a Sole Practitioner.

  • I am running for a position on the Zoning Board of Appeals because I believe my experience as an Attorney and life-long Trumbull Resident can assist the Town in maintaining its character and to make sure it remains a GREAT place to live. I served for a time as a Clerk for the only Judge at the time assigned to hear Zoning and Land Use matters in Fairfield County, and I strongly believe that exposure to Zoning Appeals and the decision-making process in deciding them can be essential in facing upcoming challenges to our Town.

  • The success of any Town is dependent upon responsible stewardship. My goal, if elected, is to ensure that Zoning Appeals are handled carefully and conscientiously. It is even more essential that the decisions made by our Zoning Board of Appeals are justifiable and upheld by the Courts reviewing them. I believe my experience can assist in maintaining the character of our Town.

  • I previously served on the Pequonnock Valley Management Committee and the Trumbull Civil Service Board, and ran for Town Council in 1999. I was also an active member of the Jane Ryan Father's Club and PTA, and the Board of Directors for Trumbull Loves Children. I was also Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 67 here in town, where I continue to serve as an adult leader and Merit Badge Counselor. My business has also sponsored the Trumbull High School Football and Rugby Teams!

  • Trumbull has been, and continues to be a wonderful place to live, play, raise children and retire. I love the close-knit community it provides, as well as the educational and recreational resources that are inherent to the character of our Town.

What’s a fun fact about you?
